Upamecano signs new Bayern deal to end uncertainty around future
Dayot Upamecano has ended the uncertainty around his future by signing a new contract with Bayern Munich.
The France defender was due to become a free agent in the summer and had been free to negotiate a pre-contract with foreign clubs.
The 27-year-old was reportedly a Liverpool target.
However, he has signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal at Bayern to keep him at the German champions until the summer of 2030.
Blackburn appoint ONeill as he juggles Northern Ireland job
Northern Ireland manager Michael ONeill will take charge of struggling Championship side Blackburn for the rest of the season in a joint role.
In a deal agreed with the Irish FA, the short-term arrangement will see ONeill remain in charge of the national team for the World Cup qualifying play-off against Italy in March and, should they beat the odds to progress, for the play-off final as well.
ONeill will be in the stands for Rovers trip to QPR on Saturday, with former Northern Ireland midfielder Damien Johnson remaining in the dugout for one more game, having been in interim charge since the sacking of Valerian Ismael on February 2.
Blackburn sit 22nd in the Championship but are level on points with Leicester above them, having a game in hand going into the weekend.
In a statement, ONeill said: I am grateful to the Irish FA for their support in allowing me to take this opportunity.
I think its a forward-thinking approach, where Ill be using a scheduled period of inactivity creatively and proactively.
Being out on the grass every day, involved in matches, tactical work and the intensity of club football, keeps you at your best.
It also gives me closer visibility of players operating in the Championship, where a significant number of our squad are competing week in, week out. Having that proximity to their environment is valuable in terms of understanding form, fitness and emerging talent.
If this experience helps sharpen me and enhances our preparation even marginally, then its a positive step for us.
The arrangement is similar to the one which saw ONeill take charge of Stoke in late 2019, while initially remaining as Northern Ireland manager.
Arteta: No regrets over Nwaneri loan
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on if he has any regrets about sending Ethan Nwaneri on loan to Marseille with the Gunners' current injury list:
"It's easy after making the decision.
"Who could predict that Mikel Merino would be out for five months and then the injury to Kai [ Havertz].
"It's unfortunate but we have to make the decisions on the moment and understand the context there.
"The best decision for the club, and for Ethan [Nawaneri] was for him to go and experience a different environment and have minutes and play to get him eready to come back to us."

Latest from Your Site News' Michael Bridge:
Tottenham are confident of appointing an interim head coach by Monday when the players return for training.
Spurs will bring in a short-term option before naming a permanent successor to Thomas Frank in the summer.
Spurs are looking to appoint an experienced head coach who has a track record of going into clubs and making an immediate impact.
If successful, the interim will be considered for the job on a full-time basis.
Robbie Keane is understood to be one of the managers interested in taking over at Spurs, but only on a permanent basis.
The former Spurs striker is currently in charge of Hungarian champions Ferencvaros, who are competing on three fronts for silverware.
Ex-Spurs managers Harry Redknapp and Tim Sherwood have thrown their hat in the ring to take over until the end of the season.
Roberto De Zerbi is another name that has been linked with Spurs after leaving Marseille earlier this week. However, it is believed he is unlikely to make an immediate return to the dugout.

Sunderland sporting director Speakman leaves club
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman has left Sunderland after five years at the club.
Sunderland said that "with Premier League status restored and a strengthened football leadership structure in place, the board of directors has made the decision to continue the clubs journey without Kristjaan".
Director of football Florent Ghisolfi will continue to lead Sunderlands sporting programme after assuming control of all football operations in July 2025.
Speakman rebuilt the club's football operations following his appointment in December 2020, reshaping its recruitment and performance infrastructure and restoring competitive momentum.
His time at the club included three victories at Wembley, including Sunderlands first win at the national stadium since 1973 and two play-off final wins.
Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus said: "Kristjaan has made an important contribution to Sunderland AFC during a period of significant transition and growth, helping to rebuild the Club and restore its place in the Premier League.
"Strong foundations have been established throughout our football operations over the past five years, and that phase of redevelopment is now complete.
"As we look to the future, our focus is on building from that position of strength with clarity of direction and sustained progress. We are grateful for Kristjaans commitment and professionalism and wish him every success for the future."
Aberdeen close to appointing Horneland - but may have to wait until summer
Latest from Your Site News' Anthony Joseph:
Aberdeen are close to appointing Eirik Horneland as their new head coach - but may have to wait until the summer.
Its understood the situation with the Norwegian manager is complicated for a number of reasons, but the club are relaxed about the situation.
Its believed one of those reasons is that Horneland would prefer to join in the summer, rather than at the business end of the Scottish Premiership campaign.
He is also sorting out his compensation from St Etienne, where he left last month.
The Dons remain confident Horneland will be in charge of the club for next season and are in advanced talks to finalise that.
Horneland was in Scotland two weeks ago for talks with the Dons, as sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel works on a replacement for the sacked Jimmy Thelin.
Today, Aberdeen announced the return of former assistant boss Tony Docherty to come in, in a similar interim role with caretaker manager Peter Leven.
Its believed the Dons want to utilise Dochertys extensive knowledge of the club and league to assist the interim management until the of the season.
'Spurs add Rose and Terzic to managerial shortlist'
Tottenham have added ex-Bundesliga bosses Marco Rose and Edin Terzic to their list of potential candidates to succeed Thomas Frank, according to The Telegraph.
It is claimed the interview process is now under way for the vacant head coach role, but it is unclear whether Rose and Terzic are seen as interim or permanent options.
Rose and Terzic are both out of work, with the former sacked by RB Leipzig last year, while the latter left Borussia Dortmund in June 2024.
Terzic is reportedly interested in the Spurs job, having turned down the chance to manage several European clubs, including Monaco, to hold out for a Premier League job.
It is also claimed Roberto De Zerbi, Mauricio Pochettino and Robbie Keane are all prominent in Tottenhams thoughts.

Latest from Your Site News' Kaveh Solhekol:
Raheem Sterling has joined Dutch side Feyenoord until the end of the season.
Sterling, who left Chelsea in January, has not played since May 2025 after falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge.
He will link up with former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie, and the Feyenoord boss said: Naturally, its a fantastic feat that weve managed to convince a player of Raheems calibre to sign with us. His football resume speaks for itself: hes a player whose qualities can change the outcome of a game without a doubt, and I am convinced he will turn out to be a valuable addition to the team as we work towards achieving our goals in the second half of this season.
Sterling said: As a free agent, I've had, for the first time in a long time, the opportunity to control the next step in my career. I wanted to take my time to speak with clubs and their head coaches to better understand the role they envisioned for me and ensure that I can add real value in this next chapter.
"Having spoken in great detail with Robin, I'm confident that Feyenoord is a place I can be happy and establish myself as a valued member of the team.
"Playing abroad is a whole new challenge for me - and one Im ready to embrace. Honestly, Im just excited to get started. To Feyenoord and particularly Robin and Dennis, thank you for your patience and professionalism as I navigated this process."
